Why combine units? Combining units can: a) enhance pupils’ learning by providing planned opportunities for them to apply knowledge, skills and understanding in different contexts b) enhance pupils’ learning by helping them to make significant connections between aspects of the subjects being linked c) help teachers to link subjects in their planning, without compromising on focus, rigour and progression in each subject d) support schools in developing a coherent, whole-school curriculum plan that exploits the most powerful opportunities for linking subjects. |

'Who's Been Sitting In My Chair' is a new cross curricular planning unit by Jane Moat and Lynn Kelsey from the East Riding of Yorkshire. It is designed to enable teachers to plan for children to learn through creative, practical responses along a 'Learning Pathway', making connections between learning and utilising a real local history source to bring the past to life. As part of planned whole school provision for history, art and literacy, 'Who's Been Sitting In My Chair?' allows children to explore the past creatively. |
